Kindergarten Assembly next Friday March 30th

Make sure this date is in your diary!

It's Kindergarten Assembly next Friday March 30th.
We have had many discussions with all the classes during Team Time, making a list of what we have been learning and then voting to decide what we will share.
Now we are busy practicing.
We are super excited!
We hope you can all make it.

Persuasive Writing

We have been learning all about writing to persuade.

We have been listening to books being read and noticing what different authors do and what words the characters are using.
We have read the pigeon books and ‘I really like slop’ by Mo Willems, ‘I wanna iguana,’ ‘Animals should definitely not act like people,’ 'Hey Little Ant', ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ and ‘Lazy Mary.’

We now know…
To persuade is like trying to convince someone.
Sebastian shared his definition,  “Get someone to do something” and
Emerson added “that you really want.”
Don’t forget to give reasons why - don't just say I want, I want!

“My mum says if I say I want, I want, I want, she wont get it” Nadia told us.
“My whole family says okay, okay, okay, when I say I want, I want, I want!”
Chean Hor shared.

Use words like…
“Please,” Nadia suggested and Sebastian added “a lot!”
Cry? We saw it in a book.
“My little brother does this.
My mum used to give, but now she doesn’t,” Marwin told us.

Now we are trying some of these things out in our writing when we have writers’ workshop.
Has anyone tried to persuade you lately?

Looking after our belongings

In the Parent Student Handbook there it mentions

Personal items at school
Any items brought from home to school are at the discretion of the parents and are the full responsibility of the student while at school. ISPP is not responsible for any losses.

We have had many toys being brought to school and then 'given' to friends.

In our Kindergarten team time (a time when all the Kindergarten classes come together) we had a discussion about bringing toys to school.

These are the reasons the children thought it best to keep toys at home;

·     You might lose them and never find them.
·     There are already toys at school.
·     They might get broken.
·     You might get distracted and not play with your friends.

Reading at home

You may have seen books coming home in plastic pockets lately.
Some children have wanted to take home books to read that we have been reading in class.
We have been choosing books that we can practice reading strategies that we have been exposed to in class.

Here is a chart which shows some of the strategies we have been using when we encounter words we are not sure of.

Some children have made the choice to continue reading with RAZ kids whilst others have shared they want to read their library books or books they have at home with you.

There are many ways that we can foster a love of reading at home and develop lifelong readers.

An interesting graphic ...

Wacky Wednesday

Wacky Wednesday

This Wednesday (7th March) the Student Council are organising a dress up day.
WACKY WEDNESDAY !
The children can come dressed in a wacky, zany, odd way!
They do not need fancy costumes.
They can wear their clothes backwards, odd patterns, funny hairstyle ... whatever way you can imagine. (Just remember though we have PE so ... maybe appropriate shoes are still needed)
:)
